How to download Instagram Reels
Reels are public short videos, and saving one does not need an app. Copy the reel link, paste it into the downloader, and keep the HD MP4 with its original sound.

What you get
A single MP4 file at the resolution Instagram serves for that reel, with the original audio track. No account handle overlay is added by the downloader, and nothing is cropped.
Step by step
- Open the reel. Find the reel in the Instagram app or on instagram.com. The account must be public.
- Copy its link. Tap the three-dot menu on the reel and choose Copy link. On desktop, copy the URL from the address bar.
- Paste into the downloader. Open the Instagram downloader, paste the link, and wait for the preview to appear.
- Choose HD MP4. The preview shows the available file. Video downloads as MP4 with the reel's original audio.
- Download and watch. Confirm the download, let the countdown finish, and open the MP4 from your device's downloads.
Reels vs. regular video posts
Instagram uses the same media pipeline for reels and feed videos, so the downloader handles both. The difference is only where you find the Copy link option. Reels have it in the three-dot menu; feed videos and IGTV posts expose it the same way. See the video guide for those formats.
Why some reels fail
- Private or close-friends accounts cannot be read.
- Deleted reels disappear from the source immediately.
- Age-restricted posts require a login and are rejected.
- Story links are not reels and are not supported.
Respecting creators
Downloading a public reel is not a license to re-upload it. If you want to feature someone else's clip, ask first and credit them. Music inside a reel may have its own licensing terms that do not transfer with the file.
