How to download a TikTok video

Saving a public TikTok takes about twenty seconds: copy the link, paste it, pick a format, and download. Here is the full flow, plus the edge cases worth knowing.

Before you start

You need a public TikTok link and a browser. No extension, no desktop software, and no TikTok account. The post should be visible without logging in; if you had to follow the account to see it, it cannot be processed.

The five-step download

Open the video. Find the TikTok you want to save. It must be public — private or friends-only posts will not work.
Copy the link. Tap Share, then Copy link. On desktop, copy the URL straight from the address bar.
Paste and preview. Open the TikTok downloader and paste the link. The preview card with thumbnail and format buttons loads in seconds.
Pick MP4 or MP3. Choose HD MP4 for the video or MP3 for the audio. The video option returns the clean, watermark-free file.
Download and open. Confirm the download, wait for the countdown, and open the file from your downloads folder or browser notification.

Which format should you choose?

Choose HD MP4 when you want the clip itself: the picture, the motion, and the original sound. Choose MP3 when you only need the audio, for example a song or a quote. The MP3 is 192 kbps, a good size-to-quality balance.

Downloading on a phone

On iPhone, Safari saves the file to the Files app under Downloads. On Android, Chrome places it in the Downloads folder and shows a notification when it is ready. If nothing seems to happen, check for a blocked pop-up; the download flow opens a new tab.

About the watermark
